One Of A Kind Architects is a Stockholm and Athens based architecture studio run by Maria Papafigou and Johan Annerhed. The boutique office OOAK was founded as a development of the partners previous Athens based practice “paan architects” in 2013. The office today works with projects of different scales in a broad variety of environments around the globe, sensitively approaching each project in the context of its own conditions and needs.
OOAK combines a creative design process with a passion to design spaces with particular qualities and is committed to ambitious and innovative design, always with a specific attention to detail. In that sense, our architecture does not represent a specific style; instead, there is a common approach of respect for local peculiarities and the ambition to actively interact with the place, contributing to the formation of its identity.
The OOAK idea
- We aim to create one-of-a-kind projects with distinct identities that combine innovative thinking with environmentally friendly ideas. Characteristics such as program, physical and cultural contexts, climate and people are specific attributes that often are the driving forces for the design process. We enjoy reinterpreting vernacular elements into our design and of course we bear with us the traditions of our two distinct countries. Our work is very much inspired by the Nordic respect for nature and the Greek vernacular attitude to tailor-made solutions.
1. DISTINCT CONCEPT
A strong and distinct concept, tailored specifically for each and every project, is developed through research and analysis of the local attributes and characteristics, which become the core and foundation of the design.
2. TIGHT-KNIT PROCESS
From the concept stage forward, the project continues to evolve throughout an intense and dynamic design process that allows us to further investigate and develop our ideas using different mediums.
3. THE OUTCOME
Every project is always followed up closely through every stage of the design process until completion. The final result is a finished building, a unique outcome that is ultimately a translation of the concept into built form.
