MORE ABOUT PWH FURNITURE
While studying cabinetmaking and furniture design at Capellagården, professor Carl Malmsten’s Craft and Design School on the Swedish island of Öland, Peter Westh Hammer searched for his own expression among the roots of Scandinavian design. The results can now be seen in his latest collection of PWH Furniture.
Peter Westh Hammer calls the soul of this expression maximalistic. Unlike minimalism, which implies reduction and pared-down modernism, maximalism applies the principles of utilisation and function twinned with form and material.
This is achieved by creating a more rich and vibrant design aesthetic that offers a sense of luxury and multi-sensory appeal. In short, Peter Westh Hammer’s furniture embraces an enriched modernism whereby designs use geometric form to avoid representation, giving individual pieces a vitality that approaches the limits of what is possible.
The materials he uses reflect his striving for perfection and his instinctive understanding that quality is essential to a piece of furniture’s final form and intended function. Besides sourcing only the finest woods such as ash, maple, oak and teak, all leather used in PWH’s designs comes from the respected Swedish tannery and saddlery, Tärnsjö, founded in 1873.
In addition to the PWH collection seen on this website, Peter Westh Hammer accepts private commissions for custom furniture and total intirior solutions from private and corporate clients.
PWH Furniture addresses the needs of all people possessing a refined appreciation of detail, finish and craftsmanship who seek furniture that will last and be enjoyed by many generations.
