The delicate control of light, both natural and artificial, is fundamental in his work; the light is celebrated and the darkness indulged, creating spaces with a gentle drama and a quiet intensity.
 
Richard is fascinated by the craft of architecture. He collaborates closely with specialists and artisans who bring the passion for their discipline to a design project. Listening to and working with these craftspeople, be they stonemasons, leatherworkers, cabinetmakers or highly skilled builders, enriches the design process and adds immeasurably to the success and to the enjoyment of a project. Enjoyment is important - objects and spaces should be enjoyable to design and enjoyable to use.
