Pedro Azevedo and Susana Rosmaninho
Profile
Office founded in Porto by Susana Rosmaninho and Pedro Azevedo. From the beginning they’re dedicated ourselves to the most diverse scales, programs and sites, showing great resilience with tight budgets and deadlines.
They move in the permanent search for a synthesis, in an optimistic and pragmatic process that focuses on the essential and that often finds in the constraints an unblocking.
They seek that all project challenges are opportunities to solve problems and make architecture happen. They foster architecture practice with complementary multidisciplinary enrichments, such as museology. All projects interest us, public and private, from houses to museums, from exhibitions and small ephemeral buildings to urbanism.
The various projects and works have in common being anchored to clear formal concepts that correspond to building strategies that are easily perceived, of which we highlight the work for the Tua Valley Interpretive Centre and the Project for the Requalification and Musealization of Casa do Passal – Aristides de Sousa Mendes (1st Prize, 2017).
In addition to the distinctions in public competitions, our work has been published nationally and internationally. In 2018, Tua Valley Interpretive Centre was awarded the Jury’s Special Award at the Archizinc Trophy – VMZinc at a ceremony held in Paris, is nominated for the EU Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award 2019, the most important European architectural prize awarded by the Mies van der Rohe Foundation and is also a finalist for the Bauwelt Award First Works 2019, promoted by Bauwelt magazine.
For the set of works and projects, our office was also a finalist of the Architectural Review Emerging Architecture Awards (AREA) 2018, a distinction promoted by The Architectural Review magazine, whose presentation before the jury and ceremony took place under the World Architecture Festival in Amsterdam.
