SALVATORI BIO
Salvatori is an award-winning third-generation Italian design company specialising in natural stone. Founded in 1946, the company is renowned for its innovative and elegant products created in their Tuscan headquarters just a few kilometres south of the famed Carrara marble quarries. From stunning textures for walls and floors, to bathroom items and products for the home such as tables, lighting, mirrors and decorative pieces, the Salvatori brand has become the global benchmark in the “design meets natural stone” field.
Drawing on the very best of Made in Italy values and know-how, Salvatori fuses old-fashioned craftsmanship with contemporary design. Whilst many of its products are the result of partnerships with internationally noted designers, what lies at the heart of all the company produces is a deep-rooted passion for the inherent beauty of natural stone, and its defining characteristic: that no two pieces can ever be identical, meaning that every single product has its own unique history.
DESIGNERS
One of Salvatori’s pillars has long been teaming up with designers and architects, whether for small projects where they are known for their ability to find innovative solutions to engineering or technical problems, or to create installations and products. For example, John Pawson used the groundbreaking Lithoverde® stone back in 2010 for his much talked about House of Stone which stole the show at Salone del Mobile that year. Kengo Kuma designed his first ever product range using Salvatori stone and the result is the Ishiburo bathroom collection (basin, bathtub, shower tray and texture). With Ron Gilad, the company won the 2013 Wallpaper* Best Domestic Design award for the piece “Girella”. Other designers with whom the company have collaborated include Piero Lissoni, Michael Anastassiades and Rodolfo Dordoni.
AWARDS
1989: the Italian Trade Commission recognised Salvatori as the most innovative company in the entire stone sector in Italy in the 20th century.
2012: awarded the Innovation Prize by the ADI Index in 2012 for environmentally friendly product Lithoverde®.
2013: Salvatori won the Premio di Premi (which loosely translates as the Award of all Awards). Initiated by the Italian government, this award was created to honour the very best in innovation and creativity Italy has to offer. It recognises those organisations which have made outstanding contributions in technological innovation in the fields of industry, research, public administration or in the tertiary sector.
2013: Wallpaper* magazine named limited edition piece Girella as winner of Best Domestic Design.
2014: the company received an Honourable Mention at the Compasso d’Oro awards.
