The San Patrignano Design Lab was born in 1978, among the first activities in the rehab center to enable young guests to do something rewarding with their hands and at the same time receiving appropriate vocational training.
In time, San Patrignano assumes the form of a village with many workshops. These include carpentry, smiths, wallpaper, decoration, where converged well known architects, artisans, designers, attracted by the San Patrignano energy full of humanity and the potential of a pole craft capable to express character and elegance through hand work. Here prototypes were born, ideas become objects and the customization concept Is revolutionized. This happens always searching for a deeper meaning for good things that give dignity and value to the work that produced them.
With patience, in the rhythm of craftsmanship, the young people of San Patrignano rediscover the values of time and beauty. The products that comes from the workshops are the result of constant updating, fed by new projects and master classes.
The Design Lab cultivates an knowledge made of ingenuity, creativity, contamination, balance. Here the young people In San Patrignano measure themselves by joining the rehab path with the acquisition of professional skills, an essential step to their full reintegration into society. From the sale of manufactured goods, as well as the others San Patrignano products, the Community supports its mission, free of charge.
Barrique, the third life of wood
Recycling and recovery . Barrels and people . This is the aim behind “Barrique, the third life of wood”, the project born in 2012 to reinterpret the disused wood which led to the creation of design objects through the wood of the barrels with a capacity of 230 liter. Over 40 world-renowned architects and designers draw the objects, then built by the residents engaged in the carpentry workshop of the community. It is a collection exclusively licensed by San Patrignano in collaboration with Maurizio and Davide Riva. The barrels in French oak are used for aging wine, with a life expectancy of only three years. Thanks to the Barrique project now they can get a new life transformed into chaise longue, chairs, stools, tables and trays. Objects produced in limited series and become elements of a permanent collection that every year is enriched with new creative contributions .
