Behind the foundation of Tetrimäki Furniture Factory is a Christian community, which worked after the Second World War helping children. The founder, German Lutz Reinhardt visited Tetrimäki with his family for the first time in 1966 at the age of 14. In 1970s, enthusiastic about woodwork and charity work, he returned to Finland and started the furniture factory at the same place, where the Christian community had worked to help children. Mr. Reinhardt made a contract for Tetrimäki to manufacture Eliel Saarinen furniture with exclusive rights and continued the charity work through the Tetrimäki foundation.
Two basic elements of craftsmanship cherished by Lutz Reinhardt were beauty and quality. That is why he called his factory ”The Factory of Beautiful Design”. Tetrimäki continues the long tradition of Finnish fine carpentry with its’ professional carpenters and even today collaborates in training new carpenters and master carpenters together with educational institutions. The production has always been and continues to be handicraft-intensive. The company has its own sawmill to ensure the availability of first class timber, essential for maintaining the finest quality in carpentry. The company is dedicated to continue the top quality production and to preserve the unique heritage of Nordic Design, especially the legacy from Eliel Saarinen.
