MORE ABOUT VALENCE DESIGN
Valence modular wallsystem.
Combined functional elements add aesthetical value to the interior that is larger then the sum of its parts.
The strict geometrical lines of the Valence wallsystem bring a sense of calm to the interior. Usually the interior might become messy when too many functions demand their space. Functionality, color and material are skillfully combined to functional wall-art. Your own style and needs are the center to any interiorproject with Valence. To guide you on your way designer Sjoerd Jonkers personally curated the Simul sets that fit various styles and needs. When you have found the Simul that matches your project you can always add more elements from the Valence collection.
Science
The name Valence was choses for a reason. We often see the term Valence used in various disciplines of science such as chemistry, physics and psychology.
Chemistry
In chemistry, the valence or valency of an element is a measure of its combining power with other atoms when it forms chemical compounds or molecules. The property of an element that determines the number of other atoms with which an atom of the element can combine. Introduced in 1868, the term is used to express both the power of combination of an element in general and the numerical value of the power of combination.
Valence, as used in psychology, especially in discussing emotions, means the intrinsic attractiveness (positive valence) or aversiveness (negative valence) of an event, object, or situation. However, the term is also used to characterize and categorize specific emotions. For example, the emotions popularly referred to as "negative", such as anger and fear, have "negative valence". Joy has "positive valence". Positively valenced emotions are evoked by positively valenced events, objects, or situations. The term is also used about the hedonic tone of feelings, affect, certain behaviors (for example, approach and avoidance), goal attainment or nonattainment, and conformity with or violation of norms. Ambivalence can be viewed as conflict between positive and negative valence-carriers.
Corporate social responsibility
Products and resources from the Valence wallsystem are relatively easy to recycle.
The circular economy is one of the sources of inspiration for the design of Valence products. Most parts of the collection are made in the Netherlands. Therefore it is easy to check the quality and sustainability of our suppliers. All products are assembled in Amsterdam creating local jobs. The flat design is very important to minimise the ecological footprint in packaging and transportation.
Valence studio
Valence was founded by designer Sjoerd Jonkers and design entrepeneur Sebastiaan Zuiddam in 2015. The Valence studio is situated in Amsterdam. Here we design and make new elements within the Valence wallsystem. We try to limit ourselves to 4 new products per year, but sometimes we find it very hard to choose... This means there is always something new to add to your interior project! The input from users is a big inspiration. Share your projects or suggestions #valencewallsystem
Many solid (3D) elements are handmade in the Valence studio in Amsterdam. MarbleArt or Concrete elements or the assembly of the various wallclocks. Polygon (2D) elements are usually made with the lasercutter.
Together with our partners we work on various interiorprojects. Together with the customer we could make a special design for a hotel, bar, office and many more. We love to do bespoke products, sometimes this leads to new elements in the collection.
