Concept
ABK’s new Papier collection takes an innovative approach to ceramic design that focuses on a search for novel surfaces with a high decorative content. In developing the Papier ceramic collection, ABK drew lessons from the world of fashion and interior design, sectors where elegance increasingly derives from an ability to skilfully blend not just colours, but also graphic designs and textures to create unexpected and sophisticated effects.
Papier uses a wealth of graphic elements - geometric, abstract or with a vaguely retro flavour – to create a floor and wall tile range that can be perused like soft furnishings. Catering for contemporary architecture applications, the collection features a neutral base available in 4 colours reminiscent of the surface of concrete, which serves as a backdrop to an alternation of two-tone graphic motifs. The resultant floor tiles are visually striking and can be composed like ceramic carpets.
The wall tiles introduce a number of decorative elements reminiscent of paintings. The sophisticated patchwork effect of walls tiled with Papier can be combined with the fashionable graphic motifs of the Lettering composition, with the artistic touch of painted flowers of the Fleur collection, or with the sophisticated Eastern style patterns of the Samarcanda inserts.
