Kiila Coat Stand
Clothes racks from Artek, Designed by Daniel Rybakken
Product description
Kiila is Finnish for “wedge,” and a simple system of connecting wooden legs with wedge-shaped metal joints is behind the Kiila Coat Stand. Composed of three supporting legs, the sturdy Coat Stand provides practical storage for coats and other items. Made of solid ash and part of a series of hallway furniture, the Kiila Coat Stand is an aid to interior organisation and possesses a quiet beauty all of its own. An exercise in rational design and engineered construction, the sculptural Kiila Coat Stand is a design in which all aspects of construction are visible.
Concept
Kiila means “wedge” in Finnish, and a simple system of connecting wooden legs with wedge-shaped metal joints is behind the Kiila series of hallway furniture. The Kiila coat stand, coat rack, bench, and podium are exercises in rational design and engineered construction by Norwegian designer Daniel Rybakken. These small pieces of furniture aid organisation, and can be seen as supporting elements in an interior – versatile, useful, and discreet.
Key to their design is an honest and clever use of industrial techniques and standard elements in conjunction with a subtle sculptural nature in which all aspects of construction are made visible. Rybakken has created a series with timeless appeal and a quiet beauty.
