Pendant Light A331 “Beehive"
Suspended lights from Artek, Designed by Alvar Aalto
Product description
The A331, nicknamed “Beehive,” is one of Alvar Aalto’s most popular lighting designs. Suitable for homes and public spaces alike, “Beehive” creates a warm, diffuse light when switched on, a result of the ingenious design that features several rows of perforated steel rings. True to its nickname, “Beehive” retains its distinctive sculptural presence even when unlit and was originally designed for Finland’s University of Jyväskylä in 1953.

Concept
In the designing of the pendant lights that form the Artek collection, great attention has been paid to meeting two criteria. Each light should be seen and must satisfy aesthetic demands, while the quality of light cast should be exceptional, bright-toned, and diffuse.
Artek’s pendant lights are united by their sculptural presence, which can be appreciated whether they are illuminated or not.
