Product description
Concept
HUSK, a great family born of different armchair versions, stepped into the bedroom with the bed presented last year. Now it reaches an important landmark with the sofa. Actually, its design, on paper, was born before the others but, as often occurs in case of powerful innovation, it was necessary to perfect the technology that would make its implementation possible.
A moulded plastic shell and a series of soft cushions: these are the basic elements of the Husk armchair. A celebration of softness, Husk is the result of a long development process to create a versatile armchair that is both unique in its own right and able to complement even the most classic sofas. Three types of cushions are available: standard, large and very large or with a headrest, while the body support can be either fixed or rotating. A ottoman footrest is also available. Playing on the wide range of colours and finishes of the body (in four-toned recycled plastic), the support (in natural oak or grey or black lacquered wood) and covers (numerous types of leather or fabric), Husk can radically change its appearance, from a single colour to an extremely bright or subtly elegant style. With this project, B&B Italia embraces the theme of ecology by using both recycled and recyclable materials, and components that can be fully disassembled in future – thus simplifying the recycling process and reducing the environmental impact.
HUSK-SOFA is not a sofa with the soft part placed on a base but is, instead, softness turned into a sofa. It is composed from a series of structural cushions, not only in the seat but also in the back and armrests that are the same height and stand out for their particular flexibility.
You do not sit on HUSK-SOFA but you step into it, into a warm embrace, without losing contact with your surroundings. Although the armrest and the back are decidedly high, they are not so high as to prevent the gaze from roaming. Protective and hospitable without creating isolating barriers, HUSK-SOFA was born with the calling of the single piece that has no intention of being developed into a system, despite not having an elite nature.
The sofa has only one depth that is rather deep (102 cm) and two lengths (225 cm and 261 cm), which are differentiated by the single cushion in the shorter version or divided into two portions, both for the back and for the seat, in the longer version. It has supports finished in copper or a bronze nickel painted finish, with throw pillows to enhance comfort. Refined and casual at the same time, covers privilege mélange fabrics, both in wool and linen.
HUSK-SOFA does not forget the initial challenge of revisiting the tradition of Chesterfields and of developing the theme of top stitching in a contemporary version. It has the practical features of a perfectly tailored down jacket that is worn, why not, even over a dinner suit.
Husk by Patricia Urquiola is presented in new versions in addition to the chair with die-cast legs already in collection. The new variants extend its use and change the perception of the piece. Now the base can be in oak wood (light, black, grey and smoked), or with a four-star base in aluminium, with or without castors, in a wide range of finishes.
