Concept
Billiani is re-releasing an icon from the 1970s designed by Kazuhide Takahama. Japanese by birth and naturalized in Italy in the 1960s, he conceived of the Marcel side table in 1974. Billiani is proposing a version faithful to the original project in chromed metal rod with transparent or smoky glass top and has added several variations in terms of materials — introducing marble and lacquered wood as an alternative for the top — and proportions — offering a second height.
An agreement for the re-release of the Marcel side table has been signed between Billiani and Kazuhide Takahama’s heir, as the designer passed away in 2010. Takahama’s son oversees the quality, performance, and aesthetics of the product manufactured by Billiani and guarantees that every interpretative intervention — in this case, new heights and alternative materials — reflects the spirit and meaning of his father's design.
