Product description
Concept
Arik Levy has been frequenting Bitossi Ceramiche since long time ago and during these visits he was able to understand in-depth not only the history of this company, but also the incredible manual skills of the ceramists who work there. Hence it came the desire of making a 'big' collection, to fully express the idea of a ceramic sculpture. The intermediate steps of this collaboration between Arik Levy and Bitossi Ceramiche are marked by Tubes and Tribe collections, where the latter already bears in its core a very similar concept to Totem. Then finally the Totem project has evolved and it took its final shape, by articulating in a series of big sizesculptures and developing the idea of stacking elements as in the former Tribe collection. The stackable element that can turn as interchangeable makes it so that you can create new sculptures in time and space endlessly.
As Arik Levy says “I was thinking of a group of the African Masaii troopers, of a bunch of trees growing one next to the other where each one has it own formation, colors, thickness and therefore age. They grow man size and more, they are solid and fragile at the same time, visible and invisible. These totems may also look like DNA analysis or chemical formulas in space. But for me about all they have personalities and character. Erecting from the ground sectioned with intervals by the horizontal plate create rhythm in space like music to the eyes. Totems interact with the surrounding space and become part of the evolving domestic urbanism.”
All totems are made up of elements made and painted by hand. Each totem rests on a steel disc painted in black and the whole structure of stacked elements is held together by a rod that goes through all the elements and it is blocked with the last element at the top.
Each totem (B-C-D-E-F) is available in two color versions, one dominated by a beautiful bright red and the other by a matt olive green. Each totem in each of the two color versions is available in a unique limited edition of only 5 pieces.
