Designed by Icelandic designer Gudmundur Ludvik, the GL101 Timbur Outdoor Bench is a simple and harmonious piece that carries a quiet strength. Crafted from durable FSC™-certified teak, its pared-back, minimalist aesthetic comes from Ludvik’s attention to highlight the beauty of the wood. Generous armrests serve as side tables with enough space to rest a mug and a small side plate. A seat cushion is sold separately.

Designed in 2023, the Timbur Outdoor Bench is Gudmundur Ludvik’s debut design for Carl Hansen & Søn. The Icelandic designer has a background rooted in nature and a deep appreciation for traditional craftsmanship. Having trained as a carpenter and cabinetmaker, his desire to understand the inner workings of a design has instilled a minimalistic approach to his work that is reflected in the GL101 Timbur Outdoor Bench.

Meaning ‘timber’ in Icelandic, this minimalist FSC-certified teak bench is a harmonious design that balances a calm simplicity with robust strength. Ludvik has stripped this modular, flat-packed design back to its very essence to focus solely on the beauty of the joinery and the playful nature of the untreated teak, a durable hardwood that patinates as it weathers.

An outdoor bench with generous proportions, it features a gently sloping backrest and wide armrests that become useful side tables on which to rest a cup or small plate. Offering a place for quiet contemplation or conversation, the bench is suitable for versatile outdoor settings. A slim, weather-resistant seat cushion is also available for additional comfort.
