KK41180 | Sofa with high sides

Sofas from Carl Hansen & Søn, Designed by Kaare Klint

Product description

The KK41180 sofa by Kaare Klint is a compact, two-seater version of a design that was created for the Danish Prime Minister’s office in 1930. With its refined, functionalist form, the sofa is an elegant representation of the designer’s longstanding legacy.

The design of the Kaare Klint’s KK41180 sofa first came to Danish icon Kaare Klint when he created a three-seater model for the office of Prime Minister Thorvald Stauning in 1930. When shown at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers’ Guild Exhibition in 1937, the original sofa was immediately praised by critics as ‘the best exponent of modern furniture design’. Now, more than 80 years later, the sofa stands out as an elegant classic from the Golden Age of Danish design.

Klint is renowned for his extensive anatomical measurements, which formed the basis for all his furniture design. The KK41180 sofa features two seats with tight leather upholstery, characteristic high sides and crossbars underneath each section. These serve an aesthetic as well as functional purpose ensuring more room when seated and making it easier to get up from the sofa.

The KK41180 sofa is also available with three seats as the KK41181 sofa. Both designs are finely crafted from the same high-quality materials.
