Concept
With their Sedan Chair, Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu complete their product family with a lightweight, elegant and comfortable chair which can be used both at dining tables and as a visitor’s chair. As is the case with the Sedan Lounge Chair, the special attraction of the design is the contrast between the seat shell and frame: the seat shell visually wraps over the frame like a cover, creating two functional areas that complement each other and generate suspenseful contrasts with different materials. The plastic seat shell is available in monochrome versions, with or without flat upholstery. A variety of colour and material versions results in combinations with frames made of different woods which can be selected to fit in with any interior, either harmoniously or intentionally as contrasting accents. With the Sedan series, neri&hu designed the perfect furniture for the contract segment which they had long searched for to furnish their hotel projects – seating furniture with a strong character, comfortable and yet lightweight and elegant.
With their Sedan chair, Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu demonstrate how varying impressions can be created simply by changing the material or the colour of individual elements in a design. The chair’s seat and frame are conceived as visually distinct, contrasting forms: the seat appears to be suspended in the wood or metal frame like a sedan chair, giving the design its name. Although offering the ultimate in comfort, the armchair is not a ponderous, immobile object, but rather a lightweight, flexibly arrangeable piece of furniture. The seat comes in monochrome and two-tone versions, with or without padding. In conjunction with the frame in wood or powder-coated steel tubing, a wide variety of colour and material combinations are possible, to either harmonise with a given interior or form a deliberate contrasting accent. The designers have thus conceived the perfect chair for private use and public areas such as lounges, waiting rooms, reception aereas – something they had long sought for the interiors of their projects – providing distinctive, comfortable and yet mobile and elegant seating.
Base in solid wood, with clear varnish or black- stained, or of powder-coated steel tubing. Seat in monochrome or two-tone rigid polyurethane foam, with optional removable polyurethane cushion covered in fabric or leather. Or polyurethane upholstered seat covered in fabric or leather.
