Product description

Side chair featuring an upholstered seat and a slat wood back. The frame is hard maple, mortise-and-tenon and dowel construction, with corner blocking reinforcing legs and rails. Legs have nylon glides. The seat is 2 thick multi-density polyurethane foam wrapped in Dacron over webbing that is stretched over a hardwood plywood frame. Catalyzed lacquer finish in all Cumberland Maple finishes. Also available in an armless version.

Concept

The gently angled back and simple lines of the Scala chair would be familiar to the immigrants that made America home at the turn of the centuryand so would its name, which means stairs in Italian. The steps of Scalas slat wood back invite the eye to climb upward even as the chairs hard maple frame and upholstered seat provide strength and comfort.
