In 1993, Susan Lyons, then Creative Director of Designtex, began to research the possibility of developing a collection of ecological fabrics, contacting William McDonough, an architect and leader in the field of sustainable design, to get his input. A partnership emerged between Lyons, McDonough, his colleague the chemist Michael Braungart, and a Swiss-based mill, with the goal of developing a fabric that could break down and return safely to the earth after its useful life.

The creative fruit of this unprecedented collaboration was Designtex's first Climatex® upholstery collection, launched in 1995. This latest Climatex® launch comprises seven new upholstery styles that continue to use a design and manufacturing process that has proven its sustainability over close to two decades, boasting Cradle to Cradle Gold and Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certifications. In addition, Climatex® is designed to provide climate-regulating properties in response to changes in body temperature: its extreme breathability, optimized moisture management, outstanding heat reflection and balanced warmth transfer ensure sustained well-being in all seating applications. With a carefully selected range of texture, weave, and color effects, the latest Climatex® collection offers a refined aesthetic ideally suited for corporate, residential, and boutique hospitality settings.
