Hyphen
Drapery fabrics from Designtex
Product description
In 2013, Designtex launched Loop to Loop, the first upholstery fabric to be made from "recycling recycled" panel fabric. An unprecedented collaboration amongst innovative players all along the supply chain - including Steelcase, Designtex, Canadian textile manufacturer Victor, and Unifi, maker of the recycled fiber REPREVE - yielded a successful way to close the loop, by incorporating cutting waste from furniture production into new goods. Hyphen makes use of the same infrastructure for reclaiming and recycling commercial textiles that was established during the development of Loop to Loop, and its construction is a similar blend of postconsumer recycled polyester (made from PET water bottles) and preconsumer recycled polyester (made from the cutting waste from postconsumer recycled panel fabric). In addition, the Loop-to-Loop-style construction has now been certified as Facts Gold. Hyphen offers a simple overall pattern featuring a single-tone background, with the accent "hyphens" forming a regular grid across its surface. From a distance it has the appearance of a solid, but in feel it has a subtle texture created through a specialized finishing process that shrinks the yarns to produce a puckered effect.
