Concept
After a successful introduction of the iconic wall-mounted shelving system ROYAL SYSTEM® in 1948, the legendary Danish designer and manufacturer Poul Cadovius took a further step and designed SYSTEM CADO® in 1960.
As with ROYAL SYSTEM®, the development of SYSTEM CADO® was also based on the innovative idea of moving the furniture off the floor onto the walls, leaving more space in the room. Poul Cadovius saw a challenge in the heavy, space-steal- ing traditional furniture, which occupied too much floor space, and his solution to this challenge was the introduction of the wall-mounted shelving concept. As he expressed it himself: "Most of us live on the bottom of a cube. If we put the walls even with the floor, we get a lot of space to live on".
SYSTEM CADO® consists of wall-mounted wooden panels with shelves and various drawers and cabinets, invisibly mounted onto the panels with concealed panel fittings. At the launch in 1960, the system also included tables, sofas and even a bed, and the idea of moving the furniture from the floor onto the wall was hereby completed with SYSTEM CADO®.
In 2018, dk3 relaunched SYSTEM CADO® in various wood types. The shelving system remains a stylish classic with a space-saving, flexible design, forming a unique and impressive unity.
