Gispen AA
Armchairs from Dutch Originals, Designed by Wilhelm H. Gispen
Product description
Concept
Sprung-steel armchair without back legs. Two-piece frame of hand-shaped, chromed steel tubing. High back with fixed padded covering and Bakelite armrests.
In the late 1930s, W.H. Gispen designed and made various pieces of furniture to order. Instead of the usual numeric model codes, these special piece were given two-letter alphabetical model codes, ranging from AA to AO. Within this series, which consisted mainly of tables and cupboards, the AA armchair was particularly eye-catching. Its frame design was based on the successful Gispen 412, but the AA had a higher back with a more rounded top.
Although the Gispen AA was never part of the standard collection, it was briefly listed in the catalogue as the Gispen 416.
