Concept
GODOT is a reinforced cast stone bench composed of differently sized, overlapping modules. The common denominator in these modules is a semi-circular void at one end. This perforation allows modules to be arranged beside each other, leaving a circular gap in each seat. GODOT is both a bench and a pedestal installed around trees, a composition in which they grow, highlighted by the embrace of the bench while at the same time inviting passers-by to come and enjoy the shade and the greenery. The GODOT bench design emerged from the idea of creating a piece of street furniture to reflect the duality or encounter between two halves in the shade of a tree, like Vladimir and Estragon in Samuel Beckett´s «Waiting for Godot». Beckett sketches a bare outline of the scene: «A country road. A tree. Evening.» díez+díez diseño and Escofet have added a bench to this scene to make the eternal metaphor of the wait more comfortable.
