Concept
The Morella backless bench and seat is designed as a portico that is subtly supported by the paving. The assembly, in which the elements are made from zinc plated steel because of its natural appearance and quality finish, was originally designed to withstand time. This is guaranteed by its materiality and acknowledged by the character of its presence. The Morella seat adopts the characteristics of the backless bench, in which the surface area of the seat is reduced to one third.
The Morella backless bench is an urban element that forms part of the Morella series, and is designed as an impressively large structure, understood as a search for what is essential to endow it with permanence. Its name is inspired by the colonisation of the public areas of the city of Morella, which lies in the origin of the approach used in its design.
The elementary nature of this series allows it to blend into the surroundings, provoking more complex spatial relations. That quality enables its use to be extended to historical areas where the textures and atmospheres generated by the superimposing of cultures and times do not accept the use of just any material or shape.
It is made from a single zinc plated steel sheet with a thickness of 8 mm that is then machined and welded. The end result is similar to the cross section of a U-shaped metal profile with a “Corten effect” baked paint finish. It may be installed supported on the paving and anchored with threaded bolts screwed into 40 mm openings previously created on the paving and filled with epoxy resin or fat mortar.
