Concept
The SUMO bench is the outcome of research into form and function aimed at defining the most suitable product for a natural setting. SUMO moves beyond the conventional bench, acquiring the functionality of an open, non-prefigured system. This modular, sinuous, linear bench can adopt concave and convex forms that dialogue with the existing components of the landscape. This proposal emphasises the contrast between the solidity of the seat's section, the laminated pinewood backrest and the lightness of the slender galvanized metal props at the base. The length and angle of this extremely simple yet flexible system can be adapted to any project requirement. The standard 3 metre long module in two options -concave and convex- allow Sumo to provide solutions for almost any situation and requirement, including its use as conventional linear bench with a variable length between 1 and 6 metres. The strength of the laminate timber and the highly resistant, deliberately oversized metal sections ensure a long life cycle.
