Concept
The story behind the Luxembourg chair is ingrained in our collective memory. The piece naturally takes its name from the Jardin du Luxembourg, where the French Senate is located. The idea to supplement the existing fixed benches with steel armchairs came in the 1920s, in an effort to encourage people strolling through the gardens to take a seat and relax. Fermob reinvented the famous armchair at the turn of the 21st century, with a lighter aluminium frame that could better withstand the weather, and a more comfortable, stacking design. The 3 mm seat slats and 5 mm backrest slats provide unmatched durability. Paris’ legendary Luxembourg armchair went global, adorned in the 24 shades of the Fermob colour chart and available in a multitude of formats – high, low, dining, lounge, side bars and benches.
