Concept
The pairing of form and function has always been a part of design and is brilliantly demonstrated by the Break table by Ludovica and Roberto Palomba. It adds a new element to Giorgetti’s open air lifestyle. The concept was inspired by the repetition of a modular rectangular element that creates a rigorous chequerboard pattern on the Etna lava stone surface, or a refined alternation between the opaqueness and transparency that characterise the two decorative elements that form the base. Legs in wood and metal lighten the overall appearance and create a surprisingly interesting composition, reminiscent of the charm of fusuma, the architectural panels used in Japanese houses to separate rooms.
