The history of base options made available for the Eames Shell Chair Group is a testament to the Eamesian belief that, as Charles said, “Design addresses itself to the need.” It was the need for stylish, expressive seating for offices that inspired the original 4-star base, which was added as an option in 1953. Updated with a 5-star base, swivel-mounted seat, and height adjustment, today’s Eames Task Chairs can be specified with side chair or armchair shells to support a variety of business needs.
