Concept
Kvadrat owes a large portion of its success to Hallingdal, designed by Nanna Ditzel in 1965. This classic upholstery with exceptional wearability has been continually produced ever since Kvadrat was established in 1968.
Designer and architect, Nanna Ditzel, regularly updated Hallingdal’s colour scheme. During the last revision in 2000, the palette was restored to its original core of Nanna Ditzels harmonic colour scheme. All the non-essentials were removed and a few new colours added.
The present collection includes 62 colours, consisting of 52 originals and 10 new.
Hallingdal is composed of 70% wool and 30% viscose. The qualities of the wool provide high wearability while the viscose adds brilliance and depth to the colour. Both materials have been dyed before they are spun, rendering an intense textural effect. Over the years, Kvadrat has sold more than 4 million metres of Hallingdal for both public uses in airports, trains, hospitals, etc. along with the decoration of private homes. In short, you’ll find it in places where high utility value and classical style is desired today and beyond. Nanna Ditzel received the Danish Design Centre’s Classic Prize for Hallingdal in 2001.
