Concept

Arne Jacobsen designed the fixture for the Rødovre Town Hall, situated in a suburb of Copenhagen in Denmark, in 1959. The AJ Eklipta is available as a surface lamp and a wall and ceiling lamp, which emits a pleasant glare-free light due to its lampshade made out of three layers of mouth-blown opal glass. Its translucent rim furthermore creates an atmospheric light halo around the fixture. When using the fixture himself for example on stairways, Arne Jacobsen favoured the larger of the two sizes available at the time, namely the 450 mm. Later, he designed a 220 mm version specifically for St. Catherine’s College (Oxford University) in the UK. Today, all three sizes are used worldwide, in a variety of architectonic settings
