Concept

Not only did Peter Zumthor create a bold visual statement with his original and striking HALDENSTEIN chair, he also designed this timeless seating for his own personal use. And so it was that this chair come to stand in the kitchen at his home in Haldenstein, Switzerland. That is why, in private, he affectionately calls it his “kitchen chair”. Anybody familiar with the reputed exacting standards of the Pritzker Prize winner Peter Zumthor, will most likely be able to infer what this chair represents with regard to internal and external values.

The HALDENSTEIN chair is extremely comfortable and positively healthy. Comfortable, thanks to its sophisticated upholstery made of natural rubber with no-sag spring unit, and healthy, because the deep backrest provides ideal ergonomic support for the lower back.
