Calais
Wood panels from Moko, Designed by Zsolt Karajz
Product description
Concept
One of the most exciting Moko panel designs was inspired by Calais, the town on the narrowest point of the English Channel – just opposite Dover. The highlighted part is not mentioned in the original, I just think it’s a nice parallel between the “opposite” panels and the opposite towns. The curving hollows seem to diverge at first sight, suggesting differentness and separation, but after a few imaginary twists we can get a perfect circle and arrive at unity. This unity and spirit of cohesion characterized the 14th century Burghers of Calais as well, whose heroic self-sacrifice was immortalized in the famous Rodin statue.
