Here is a beautifully composed and exceedingly appealing vintage carpet – a rare vintage Moroccan rug, woven in the mid-twentieth century. While mid-century Moroccan rugs are enormously popular and widely sought after, examples such as this are particularly rare. A beautiful ivory field, characteristic of mid-twentieth century Moroccan pieces, gives the entire piece a beautiful quality of contrast, which is impressively seized upon by the beautiful detail work. Here is where this rug departs from its mid-century Moroccan cousins, which generally feature simple, dark brown lines that serve as the detail work – for in this carpet, bright shades of red are mixed in intriguingly with the dark brown, giving this carpet rich expression. The vibrant shad of red also appears throughout the vertical borders, tying in the entire carpet beautifully. An exciting tribal composition, beautifully rendered with bright red detail work, this Moroccan rug is an exceptionally rare work.
