Here is a lovely vintage carpet – a double-sided Swedish kilim, woven in Scandinavia during the middle years of the twentieth century. Beautifully evocative of the style, this vintage Swedish carpet effectively communicates the minimalism, as well as the coming together of contemporary and traditional elements of design, that so characterize mid-century Scandinavian rugs and carpets. Impressively, this mid-century rug accomplished this on both sides. Simplistic to the point of evoking deconstruction, each side of the carpet features a simple border, and a simple field. Everything is woven in shades of gold and ivory. At the top and the bottom, the most complex detail work of the entire piece serves as something of a border of abstract flowers. The lack of ornamentation opens this carpet up to interpretation, and makes it extremely versatile. Further, this impeccably woven composition is sharp and meticulously done.
