Vintage Double Sided Swedish Kilim Rug
Rugs from Nazmiyal Rugs
Product description
Here is a lovely and intriguing vintage Scandinavian rug – a vintage double-sided kilim that was woven in Sweden during the middle years of the twentieth century. A lovely pattern of geometric figures rendered in grey and yellows dance across a yellow field, which is separated into horizontal sections by narrow bands. A true double-sided kilim, this vintage Swedish carpet features the same pattern on the reverse side, with the colors shifted – generally, grey for yellow, and vice versa. Horizontal bands appear at the top and the bottom of the piece, and a conventional border is also included. Within the field, the geometric figures are arranged into a patter: first, a pair of grey shapes, side by side. Next, a pair of golden colored shapes are separated by a grey shape. Next comes another set of grey shapes, side by side again, and so on throughout. The entire carpet thus communicates a strong sense of composition and careful design work. Exciting and beautifully representative of the mid-century Scandinavian aesthetic, this vintage kilim is a truly lovely example.
This fantastic vintage double sided Swedish Kilim rug is composed in a pleasant palette of ochre yellow and grey, two stylish colors that are predicted to be everywhere this Spring (view our entire Spring 2015 trend forecast here). This kilim also features a lovely geometric pattern, typical of mid-century Scandinavian rug designs. A lovely pattern of squares and diamonds rendered in greys and yellows dance across a yellow field, which is separated into horizontal sections by narrow bands
Scandinavian rugs such as this one are known for their functionality and folk-art flair. Although rug weaving in Scandinavia dates back to the 16th century, the rugs made during the 20th century are by far the most popular and most collected of the region’s history. These vintage rugs fit in great with contemporary interior designers’ taste in mid-century inspired interiors. This vintage kilim would make a lovely addition to any contemporary interior, and its two sides mean double the decorating options!
