Vintage Moroccan Rug
Rugs from Nazmiyal Rugs
Product description
Here is a dynamic and compelling vintage carpet – a Moroccan rug, woven in that country during the middle years of the twentieth century, a period during which some of the very finest Moroccan rugs ever created were designed and woven. This particular example is a beautiful representation of the predominant Moroccan style from that time – that of the Beni Ourain, a tribal people who for centuries have lived in the Atlas Mountains. The rugs created by these tribespeople are unique and immediately recognizable works, characterized by ivory fields and simple detail work that generally consists of a grid pattern of brown lines. As in this example, it is common for these lines to be presented in a slightly idiosyncratic, irregular manner, rather than in a conventional grid pattern. This small touch infuses these carpets with a deep sense of abstraction – a quality that has increased their popularity as more and more designers and homeowners embrace abstract and minimalist design aesthetics. A lovely example, this vintage Moroccan carpet speaks to the possibilities inherent in the style.
