This is a mid-twentieth century Moroccan carpet, woven in a fantastic and exciting tribal style. Unlike many mid-century Moroccan carpets that are characterized by broad ivory fields and simple line work, this carpet is a daring and exciting composition, riddled all over with color and exciting tribal design motifs. Effectively bifurcated along the horizontal into two complementary designs, this carpet almost communicates to the observer as two separate piece. The upper portion of the rug is characterized by stacked central rectangular figures, beautiful ivory and orange set against a dark brown and ivory ground. Meanwhile, the lower portion, which features the same color pallet, is characterized by a busier, more eccentric design: a tight latticework of crisscrossing dark brown lines, which creates beautiful negative space. This space is in turn filled with orange, brown, yellow, and ivory splashes, creating tremendous energy. A dynamic and exciting mid-century Moroccan carpet, this tribal composition delights with an exciting palette of rich tones.
