Concept
Sheer silk (gauze known as sha) came to Japan from Tang China, and was much prized as a fabric for summer kimono. Hand-woven sha was the most transparent Japanese fabric. In NUNO's attempt to create a fabric as sheer as sha, the transparent portions are made from nylon filaments, together with overspun cotton warps and wefts.
The corded cotton warps and tightly twisted cotton wefts are woven alternately to create a net effect. Combining threads of different "behaviors" (such as tightly twisted cotton thread together with a more loosely twisted one) gives a finely crinkled overall texture to the fabric.
Composition: Cotton 80%,Nylon 20%
Loom: Dobby
Width: 100 cm
