Rundrygg

During the 1930s the Swedish Institute in Rome was to be furnished with the best of Swedish design. Some of the country’s leading architects and designers were commissioned to represent Sweden in this most distinguished manner. Ivar Tengbom designed the impressive house especially for the plot of land in Rome that the Swedish State received from Italy as a gift. Elsa Gullberg created the textiles and Märta Måås-Fjetterström the mats. Carl Malmsten was commissioned to design items of furniture. The Rundrygg (‘Round Back’) was one of these and was created in 1939. After several decades of hibernation, it was put into production again in 1992; an excellent illustration of the timelessness of Carl Malmsten’s design Framework made of solid pine from Swedish forests. The seat is made with nozag springs. The padding consists of cold foam, polyether and fibrefill. The legs are made from solid oak. All production is done at O.H. Sjögren’s factory in Tranås.
