Concept
"An object of pure simplicity with a touch of fantasy."
Marc van der Voorn’s creations always contain an element of surprise. This is often stylized and its construction is well thought out. The lamps are timeless: they are created in traditional materials whose use is diverted.
The Starling lamp, on the edge of which sits a bird, made out of stainless steel (a starling), is asymmetric. Still, it keeps its balance. On paper it seems simple but in practice it is a real challenge.
The tension between the element of surprise (the bird) and the necessary balance of the lamp is tangible and gives the object a unique character.
The bird soaks the colors of the surrounding environment and it seems like it could fly away at any moment.

Cream, Olive, Mahony, Charcoal
