Lever handles from Olivari, Designed by Ron Gilad

US superanthracite satin

Concept

Virgola originated in an interior design project for a villa on Lake Garda. Its formal definition is based on a twofold departure point: history/aesthetics and function/ergonomics. From a historical point of view, the inside-out curve is generally seen in the bevelling of stone blocks, in iron railings and the edges of metal plaques. It is a romantic detail that associates the handle with the place and times of the past. Functionally, the L-shape of the lever’s classic form was rounded, carved out and mirrored in order to improve the grip and make physical contact between thumb and handle more inviting. Virgola is not a revolutionary project, but a contemporary way of looking at the past. Ron Gilad
