Alma Floor Light, Natural
Free-standing lights from Original BTC, Designed by Original BTC
Product description
Introducing Alma, a collaboration between Original BTC and Swedish interior designer Beata Heuman, combining our best-of-British approach and ethos with Heuman's inimitable eye for design and detail. Briefed to design a practical collection of go-anywhere ceramic fittings, the process began with a trip to Original BTC's Stoke-on-Trent factory, where Beata took inspiration from bone china's almost ethereal quality. The resulting shade is one of the most labour-intensive to date, featuring 41 hand-made holes which when lit, says Beata, look like little glowing stars at night. Nodding to mid-century Scandinavian design, the hand-painted shade and base are presented in three colourways seaweed, natural and coral.
Each bone china piece is manufactured according to traditional methods by our highly skilled team in Stoke-on-Trent, where now only a handful of ceramic factories exist. The process begins with a slip (clay and water mix) being poured into moulds. Once set, the moulds are split and the shade, base or ceiling rose is removed and left overnight to dry before being sponged and fettled to remove any imperfections. The items are finally biscuit fired for a natural white finish.
