powerglass® balustrade: Galeries Lafayette
Stair railings from Peter Platz Spezialglas, Designed by Ingo Maurer
Product description
Concept
150 metres of controllable powerglass® for Galeries Lafayette Maison have been supplied as a stand-alone railing for the atrium area, distributed over four floors, according to the drafts of the renowned light designer Ingo Maurer, Munich. Three independently switchable circuits have been realized inside the 43 mm laminate construction made of safety glass. Each powerglass® element is equipped with up to 1.000 LED. The railing elements are fixed to the ground without any visible components.
The different power circuits can be switched and dimmed separately, creating an almost three dimensional impression. A total of approx. 60,000 LED were used to depict coloured stars, words in different languages and colours and a starfield design. The light points in several layers and colours seem to float inside the glass, an effect which is not possible to achieve without powerglass®.
