Seggiola
Chairs from Plinio il Giovane, Designed by Mario Prandina
Product description
Concept
What a challenge it was to design “Seggiola”, but how satisfying in the end! This chair is often used in bars and cafés round Milan but it is also used by those who sit for hours every day in front of a computer. It helps one to maintain a correct posture because it is specially shaped for the spine, almost orthopedic. It is small but sturdy and is still produced by hand and, because of the solidity of its joints, it won’t break even if dropped. The backrest is of an original design which is not made of composite but of three layers of heavy oak, 3 mm thick, which have been bowed with the use of oil, which is an old fashioned method that ensures that the wood remains light and resilient. Pure linseed oil is used to treat the wood, to enhance the grain but also to make it water repellant as well as improve the gloss and generally prolong the life of the product.
