Mesa
Dining tables from Poltrona Frau, Designed by Lella Vignelli, Massimo Vignelli
Product description
An icon of formal purity designed in 1985 by Lella and Massimo Vignelli and now re-released by Poltrona Frau. The Mesa table is formed by combining two simple geometric shapes, a circle and a cone. The result is a strong and tangible, almost sculptural table, but with a lightness that comes from the simplicity of the design. The Mesa table has a Ligurian slate top which, thanks to the traditional splitting technique, maintains the rock’s natural grooves and lines on the surface. A lower shelf in burnished steel sheet metal provides further stability and resistance. The load bearing column is in grey pietra serena with a plastic shaped tip inserted in the base. The joint between the top and the column is made of tubular burnished steel to which a three-bracket joint plate is attached so it is possible to alter the position of the top.
Concept
The concept of the table in its sculptural essentiality. Mesa is a project by Lella & Massimo Vignelli from 1985. This fertile matrix of developments has been drawn on by Poltrona Frau to create a continually expanding and transversal collection. Mesa Due Meeting Table is the new version for workspaces. It combines sophisticated materials, technological performance and flexible design. A system of rectangular or oval meeting tables. The top is made up of several panels and can therefore be expanded to various lengths. The number of legs can be increased to accommodate the size.
All the tables can be integrated with cable-management systems and lift-up central panels for easy access to the electrical parts. The top with double MDF panelling is entirely covered in Pelle Frau® leather from the Color System. The frame supporting the top is in black-painted iron. The steel support column, stabilised by a counterweight system is covered in Pelle Frau® leather from the Color System with tone-on-tone stitching or in Cuoio Saddle Extra Leather with contrasting stitching.
Playing with the leather covering on the rectangular top allows identification of the President Area, featuring an inlay on the short side of a panel with richer, more important colour and finish.
The collection also includes new variants of the Mesa Due round table. Both the 120 and 150 diameters are perfect as an elegant table for small meetings. The steel base, covered in Pelle Frau® leather from the Color System or in Cuoio Saddle Extra Leather, can now be fitted with a hidden cable column. The ash top is available in a moka- or wenge-stained finish. A base is also available in pietra serena, in line with the original Mesa project.
