Concept
The brightness of the colours and then the solidity of the wood which melts into the lightness of the ceramic weave: these are the key elements of Bigoli, a set of coffee tables which are both an homage, and at the same time a revisitation of the spaghetti weave, the ancient manual ceramic technique from Bassano del Grappa. Used up to the present day to develop classical decorations, the spaghetti technique is now for the first time the protagonist of a contemporary piece of furniture, in which it instils all its expressive and chromatic energy.
The robust supporting structure, made from solid maple with a semi-matt water-based stain – available in a choice of lagoon green or coral red – cradles the light tabletop in ceramic weave, also available in green and red, in this case gloss. The colours represent a further homage to the spaghetti technique, as they are precisely those which decorate the ceramic baskets woven in Bassano del Grappa.
The colours are interchangeable, and it is also possible to create custom versions with different colours based on a predefined palette. Each of the two tables is sold individually.
The Inspiration
/Bì-go-li/ Spaghetti in Venetian dialect, as well as the name of the manual woven ceramic technique typical of some places in the Veneto region. The mind imagines the appeal of ancient workshops, where everything has a flavour of the past, but also of a future in which it is still possible not to lose everything. Where the knowledge and skills of timeless crafts are handed down by patient and expert hands, with all their tradition and mystery. Precisely like in a renaissance workshop, where we might imagine a young Titian perfecting his masterful skills thanks to the techniques and knowledge instilled by his teachers, equally illustrious and peerless figures.
The designers
Like ballad singers, designers tell of far-off and imaginary worlds through shapes, techniques and materials; they bring traditions from the past into the present to help them continue in the future. And thus decorative languages, artisan techniques and formal experimentation entwine to create different stories each time. Regaining knowledge which is disappearing, enclosing the memory of a place in an object: the work of a designer is not just creating products, but making the magic of an entire atmosphere take shape through a single object.
The Artisan
An ancient ceramic production technique, typical of Bassano del Grappa. It is the “spaghetti” technique, usually used to create hand-weaved baskets, enriched with decorations of fruit and coloured flowers. There are very few people who keep this tradition alive, but one of them is Barbara, who carries her family company forward with commitment and passion, passing down the secrets of this ancient craft tradition.
