Sottoportico | Rug
Rugs from Portego, Designed by Seraina Lareida
Product description
A highly unusual soft furnishing, Sottoportico aims to pays homage to Venice and its porticos consumed by water: the harmony of abstract superimpositions, highly evocative in their forms and colours, indeed aims to evoke typical Venetian architecture and the unmistakeable colours of the city which is in continual evolution, due to the effects of the salt of the Venetian lagoon. A rug characterised by its great visual strength, which is able to imbue the environment with its light and the brightness of its colours, while at the same time remaining extremely tactile: walking over it allows you to perceive the different lengths and types which distinguish the weave.Made with the tufting technique on a vertical loom – a unique and patented method – using extra quality New Zealand wool and the maximum number of colours available for the weaving machine. The original design is inflected with the tones of Venetian red and its green waters. It is also possible to create custom pieces in terms of the dimensions and colours.
The Inspiration
/Sot-to-pòr-ti-co/ Featuring in books, prints and paintings, real life tales and ghost stories: they are the sottoportici, the interior of Venice's famous porticos and one of its most famous architectural features. A recurrent element in the construction of residences and apartment blocks in order to deal with the limited space available in the lagoon city, the sottoportici have, in turn, dimensions which are often smaller than usual. The Zurlin Sotoportego, as it is known in the local language, leading towards Campo Ruga, is the smallest there is, just 1.70 metres in height.
The Designer
A heart suspended between art, poetry and design, a mind open to experimentation, and research into the infinite interconnections between context, form and function. An identity which fades into that of an artist in order to communicate devastating ideas born from the desire to experiment and to combine knowledge and intuition in an original manner. In manufacturing tradition too, in their manner of combining creative pleasure and talent, the designer rediscovers art's vivid reverberations: in a world dominated by technology, the artisan is still able to enchant all of humanity.
