Woodpecker Lamp – Birch Wood

Look and Feel
The shape of this lamp is easy to read, but the faceted appearance will get people's attention and interest. In a quest for the use of new materials, Studio Snowpuppe investigated whether it was possible to fold birchwood veneer using the same methods as folding paper, and in such a way that the light shines through the birchwood veneer. Studio Snowpuppe preferred wood veneer since the material gives a warm and natural color to the light, just like paper does. The lamp is made from one piece of birch wood veneer that is glued to a sheet of tear resistant paper.

Functionality
The light of this lamp is shining through the wood veneer, which makes the structure of the veneer visible. At the folds, more light is shining through, which gives a very special effect. The birch wood veneer gives the light in the room a warm touch and is able to transform the cold light of an energy-saving bulb into warm natural light. The lamp is lightweight.

Production
This lampshade is made from 1 piece of birch wood veneer, that is glued to a sheet of paper. The wood veneer is milled away to create a folding line. After the milling, all the folding lines are sanded by hand. Finally, the lampshade is folded. The Woodpecker is the first lamp on the market that uses this kind of construction.

When to use?
The Studio Snowpuppe lamps are very suitable for use in a home or in public spaces like libraries or hotel rooms. The lamps are often used in clean spaces that need some bright eye-catchers that give the space a warm ambiance. The Woodpecker lamp has a humble appearance during daytime and transforms into a point of attention when it gets dark and the light is switched on.
