Concept
An Italian design masterpiece born from the pencil of the maestro Ignazio Gardella (1905-1999).
Conceived in 1948 in a Milan in architectural and ideological turmoil, Alzabile (lit. "liftable") is not only its name but also its function: from reading lamp it can "stand up", turning the lampshade, and become a floor lamp. A brilliant project in its simplicity.
The original finish in brass and black marble is now accompanied by new color combinations: chrome, copper, Carrara marble or gray marble.
It is part of the permanent collection of the MoMA in New York City.
