Concept
The functions of products after designing and production were used to be the functions as a tool. In the early days when Patric Chia started collaboration with TIME & STYLE in 2002, designing and products are only attempts to attain forms and spirit, which cannot be defined clearly although they are powerful. When he began the production of artworks released in 2005, though he did not have a clear concept or message at first, the concept was brought out naturally once a prototype was finished and finished products were given a name.
Objects with an existential crisis — “When I am surrounded by these objects, it makes me feel like I am in outer space or something similar,” says Patric Chia, “While they are some type of objects, you can discover a small change in the way of looking at things and feelings, although they are associated with well-known chairs and table.” The manufacturing style of Patric Chia and TIME & STYLE is defined from a different angle considering functions as a tool. It is because we think what products create and given to people and space, and impacts and mechanism generated from the existence of itself are vital elements of products.
The manufacturing style of Patric Chia and TIME & STYLE is defined from a different angle considering functions as a tool. It is because we think what products create and given to people and space and the impacts and mechanism generated from the existence of itself are vital elements of products. For him, by taking steps to take a concrete shape on his own, the product achieves a state of perfection for the first time. Also, it was the most suitable way for him to use his own hands and create time gained in the production process. “For me, designing is a process of seeking something and attaining something from there.”
Design showing human nature and sensitivity of the designer makes an appeal to people’s instincts and adds a scent of presence to the product because the designer and those who use it communicate each other unconsciously. His products creating organic and complicated curved lines one-by-one by hand, just like a sculptor, are sculptures and products with a function evoking the waves of emotions at the same time, thanks to his design advocating its strong presence and igniting various types of emotions with its uniqueness. These elements represent Patric Chia himself. The existence of products designed by Patric Chia is indeed a new and unique definition of designing.
